Karsten Berlage
Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Berlage is the CEO of Alphite Capital, a highly scalable, Artificial Intelligence-enhanced platform dealing in middle-market and broadly syndicated loans.  Mr. Berlage has 25 years of experience in structured finance, securitization, insurance structuring, capital raising, and building and managing innovative and complex businesses.

From 1998 to 2008, Mr. Berlage was at UBS securitizing more than $10 billion transportation, healthcare, media, energy and insurance assets that performed well during the GFC and garnered several industry awards.  Additionally, he built an insurance-linked securities business at UBS involving life insurance, life settlements, and cat bonds.  From 2008 to 2021, Mr. Berlage led Allianz’ structured insurance business in the Americas.  Simultaneously, he successfully managed the workout of a $2 billion structured credit portfolio of some 50 positions navigating challenging credit markets.  Thirdly, he built a global, market-leading climate risk insurance business for Allianz.  From 2021 to 2024, Mr. Berlage was the chief financial officer of South Street Securities, a mid-sized, full-service broker dealer.  He was responsible for the company’s finance functions, capital raising & optimization, audit & accounting, risk management, compliance & legal.  He served on South Street Securities' Board of Directors from 2009 to 2021.

Mr. Berlage holds Masters degrees from Zurich University in Switzerland (business, finance) and Fordham Law School in New York, NY.  He also attended a post-graduate program at London Business School.
